Berowra is a station on the Main North railway line, serving the northern Sydney suburb of Berowra. It consists of three platforms with lift and stair access from an overbridge at the northern end of the station. Berowra is served by suburban trains of the North Shore line and intercity trains on the Newcastle & Central Coast line. It is the northern boundary of the Sydney Trains suburban network.

The station is staffed on weekdays from 5am to 9pm and weekends and public holidays from 6am to 9pm.[1]

History[]

Berowra station opened in 1887 with the opening of the railway line. It originally had an island platform serving the double track main line, with a passing loop on the west side to allow intercity trains to pass terminating suburban trains.

As part of the CityRail Clearways Project, a new platform (number 3) facing the passing loop was built to allow stopping intercity trains to pass terminating suburban trains as well. This platform opened on Monday 28 August 2006. Trains terminate on the middle platform (number 2), allowing Newcastle & Central Coast trains to stop on platform 3. The upgrade also included provision of lifts, a new overbridge for general station access and additional wet weather protection.

On Monday 22 January 2007 Berowra station was almost engulfed as bushfires swept the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Efforts from firefighters saved the station and a train which had terminated there.

In 2010, the station underwent another upgrade, including improvements such as a new commuter car park, security lighting and CCTV surveillance. The upgrade commenced in March 2010 and was completed by December of the same year.[2]

Platforms and services[]

The station is served by three trains per hour south and one per hour north, with additional trains during weekday peak hours. Some Central Coast line trains are express and pass through without stopping.

Platforms 1 and 2 are 8 suburban carriages long, while platform 3 is 8 V set carriages long. The station is marked as SP6.
