CityRail Journey from Merrylands to Harris Park on Cumberland Line "Y Link"
June 23, 2012
The Cumberland was constructed in 1,996 as a "Y Link" for trains to travel from Campbelltown to Blacktown moving left past Merrylands to Harris Park, rather than right to Granville with passengers having to change for a Western Line service to Parramatta/Blacktown and beyond.
The line now only has a small timetabled service these days, running only 2 services from Campbelltown to Blacktown in the morning peak and 3 Blacktown to Campbelltown services in the afternoon. Services do not usually run on weekends.
It can be used however during trackwork when the Western Line is closed from Granville, and trains to/from Penrith and Richmond travel to Glenfield or Campbelltown. This video was filmed during one of these days, when buses replaced trains from Paramatta to Strathfield.
