Kingswood railway station is located along the Main Western Line and is 52.7km from Sydney CBD.[1] It serves the suburb of Kingswood as well as a nearby Western Sydney University and TAFE campus. The station consists of two side platforms, connected by an overhead concourse and footbridge. Kingswood is serviced by Sydney Trains T1 Western Line trains in both directions.

Kingswood station is the 109th most patronised railway station in Sydney (out of a total of 176 stations), with an average of 2090 passengers boarding per day.

Features[]

Kingswood Station features the following facilities:[2]

  • Bike racks/lockers
  • Commuter car park (250+ spaces)
  • Direct access to platform
  • Ramp access to footbridge and platforms
  • Wheelchair-accessible parking spaces
  • Wheelchair-accessible toilets

History[]

In 1862, the Main Western Railway was extended from St Marys to an area near Penrith called Cross Roads, with a temporary platform built for residents in Penrith. This platform was removed the following year as the rail line reached Penrith proper. In March 1887, a new wooden platform, dubbed ‘Kingswood Siding’ (in acknowledgement of the locally preferred name) was built near the intersection of Bringelly Road and the Great Western Road. The name of the area soon changed to Kingswood and the following year the train station followed suit.[3]

Upgrades[]

In 2011, Kingswood station received a transport interchange upgrade. Improvements included new passenger drop-off and pick-up points ('kiss and ride' and taxi zones) and sheltered bicycle facilities. Construction began in August and ended in November.[4]

In April 2012, Kingswood received a commuter car park upgrade. The car park received approximately 23 additional spaces, a new entrance, CCTV surveillance, lighting, a covered footpath, a new 'kiss and ride' and taxi zone, and lighting was added in the existing car park.[5]

In 2019, construction began on a station upgrade. Improvements included lifts to the concourse and platforms, new station entrances on both sides of the station, and family-accessible toilets. The project was completed in December 2019. [6]

All three of these upgrades are part of the Transport Access Program.

Platforms and services[]

Kingswood is served by Sydney Trains T1 Western Line services, usually at a frequency of 4tph (trains per hour), boosted to 8tph during the morning peak.
